5/6 Rubicon Camp

On Wednesday 20th June the grade 5 and 6’s went to Rubicon Camp.
We stayed for three days at the Rubicon Outdoor Centre. It took 2 and a half hours to get there. When we got there we were introduced to our leaders. Their names were Mark, Michael, Bruce, Chris, Rena and Alistair. We also had parents to help. They were Mick Way, Kath Nichols, Paul Laidlaw and Heath Ralph.
Then we were assigned to our dorms. The girls were in Torbrek and the boys were in Goulburn. Then we went and had lunch.
After lunch we went to start our first activity.
At about 4.30pm we had finished all of our activities for the day and we were allowed to have free time.
The first night, groups A, B and half of C went on a night walk to the Lake Eildon Dam wall. The other groups stayed back at the Rubicon camp doing Rogaining.
Rogaining is a game where you get a map and an answer sheet and you go around the camp to look for letters. These letters made a secret message.
The next morning we were woken by music coming out of a speaker in the roof of our dorms. Then we had to go to the dining room and eat our breakfast. We had Rice Bubbles, Corn Flakes and toast.
After breakfast we had to find our group leader. The first thing that Group D did was go for a bush walk. We spotted a lot of wild animals like koalas, wombats and wallabies. When we got back to where the bus was parked we made damper out of flour, water and milk.
The next activity that we did was the rope course. The first one I went on was the high rope. It was 8 metres from the ground. You had to go along a wire using hanging rope to balance on.
There was a lower level that you could go on. They had a flying fox from both levels so you could get down. The smaller level was 5 metres from the ground and wasn’t as hard to do.
They next thing we did was to go to Lake Eildon to have a look at the water level. By the time we had finished doing that it was time to go back to camp.
At 7.15pm we had our dinner and the groups were swapped over. Group D and Group E and the other half of Group C went on the bush walk. When we got back from the bush walk it was time for supper. For supper we had a cup of Milo and a piece of cake. After supper we had to get ready for bed.
The next morning was the last day of camp. We had to pack our bags so we were ready to put them on the bus. At about 1.00pm we got on the bus and drove off. The drive was 2 hours long. At about 3.30pm we got back to school.
