A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Wangaratta Primary School!

With resources of a large school, yet the close-knit community of a small school, Wangaratta Primary School embraces the individual in a vibrant, dynamic learning environment.

Right in the heart of our town, our school has a strong 170-year history of providing inclusive education. With wide open spaces, our evolving school is one big family. Our school prides itself on working with families and its strong sense of community involvement.

Our school has a comprehensive literacy and numeracy program complemented by a strong specialist program, including Physical Education, Visual Arts, Tech, Italian and Science. We have strong Instructional Models in both Reading, Writing and Maths. The school’s emphasis on promoting inquiring minds helps students reach their potential through self-motivation and by stimulating the students ’ curiosity. We aim to give students greater empowerment and agency in their own learning, giving students the power to direct and take responsibility for their learning, creating independent and self-regulating learners.

In educating the whole child, we place equal importance on developing both the academic and social/emotional capacity of students. This equips them with the skills needed to lead successful lives and develop healthy relationships. Our students participate in Respectful Relationship weekly lessons as well as the Resilience Project program.
